SURVIVAL SKILL: COMMUNICATION

several radio communications devices

There are multiple ways to communicate with one another.

Everything from using tin cans and string to make telephones, to using Morse Code, smoke signals, or sign language can become useful during various survival situations.

The obvious need to be able to communicate should go without saying, as a basic principle of survival will be to make plans, teach others, and open up dialogues between yourself and others.

But there are still situations where the ability to talk directly to one another may be impaired or preventable completely.

Imagine being underwater, where the ability to yell is much harder than using your knife against a metal tank to signal your fiend.

Perhaps you are trying to remain silent on a hunt and wish to communicate to your friend that a dear you've been waiting for all day is behind him and he should remain calm.

What about understanding the Phonetic Alphabet, such as the use of Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta?

A basic understanding of Radio communications, such as HAM Radio, is useful if you gain access to some form of the radio communication system.

HAM Radio operators often assist during emergencies.

Note that “Alpha” is written as “Alfa” and “Juliet” is written as “Juliett”, which are the spellings still in use in the international version of the alphabet, to avoid possible critical mispronunciations by speakers of other languages.
